I have always understood drawing and painting as a visual language, a way of expressing something beyond words that can convey primal and complex meaning.

The everyday and deceptively normal is my inspiration. Those familiar people, creatures, places and landscapes that are fleetingly transformed by light or weather. That take on a new, less-known and imposing stature. Those moments are gifts: glimpses into another dimension that make us re-look at our world. In my portraiture, I focus on those same unexpected moments. A downward shift of the eyes. The static of silence in a room. An unspoken thought that transforms a space and a sitter.
 

That same impulse to find the extraordinary in the ordinary guides my work with wildlife and landscape. What would a moth with a one-meter wingspan look like? Do birds feel the vibrations of our telephone conversations when they perch on wires between telegraph poles? How, when a storm throws a particular mood over a landscape, does it change our own mood? I make paintings as an attempt to fix and share these moments.

I have exhibited throughout the UK and my paintings are in private collections across Europe, in Canada and Australia.
